This week, the “Thun Britain”, hull number FS462, was successfully transferred to the shipowner by Shipyard Ferus Smit Leer following a successful sea trial from the Eemshaven.
Eekels designed and supplied the complete electrical installation for the first ship of the series of two new oil/chemical tankers to be built for Swedish shipowner Erik Thun AB.
This tanker has a length of 80 metres and a capacity of 4900 m3, is of the type NaabsaMax, which stands for “Not Always Afloat But Safely Aground”, and is able to dry out safely during loading and unloading in the event of extreme tide differences. The tanker is fitted with electric loading pumps, for which Eekels provides the drive, in the form of the Marpower Active Front End, just as it provides the drive for the PTI and the bow thruster.
This tanker is also fitted with systems that enable the slow steaming concept, giving the vessel an on-board supply system of both 400V 50Hz and 440V 60Hz.
The items supplied by Eekels include:
- a 400/440V main and emergency switchboard
- the Marpower Automation System
- Marpower drive cabinets for the 275kW bow thrustert
- the 400 kW PTI and the eight 96kW loading pumps,
- a 400 kW PTO/PTI machine
- the cargo, navigation, wing and GMDSS control desks for the bridge
In addition to cabling and installation work for its own and third-party installations, Eekels also provided the delivery and installation of the fire alarm and lighting systems, as well as items such as the stove and searchlights
